Jesus said it this way, “’And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.”” (Mark 12:30-31).
What marks many Christians is a love for God, but not necessarily a love for people. It’s tragic that instead of being perceived and known for our love, many unbelievers see us as the direct opposite of the heart of God.
For years now, Chick-fil-A, a company known for their Christian values — including a stance for traditional marriage and honoring the “Sabbath” by remaining closed every Sunday – has taken hit after hit from liberal media’s bias and ideology.
From Mayor de Blasio wanting the restaurant chain nowhere near New York, to protests over the famous chicken sandwiches being on liberal college campuses, it seems that Chick-fil-A has endured its fair share of prejudice from people who claim to be “tolerant” and inclusive.
But it looks like once again, Chick-fil-A has chosen the high road. Immediately following the tragic deaths of 49 men and women at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida this weekend, Chick-fil-A were among the first to come to the aid of the needy and first responders.
Whereas most liberals would expect Chick-fil-A to duck and hide to get away from people who lived a lifestyle that looks nothing like what most evangelical Christians support, Chick-fil-A opened their arms wide to show their support of their community in Orlando.
Several employees at multiple Chick-fil-A locations in Orlando showed up early Sunday morning, foregoing their normal “day of rest” to cook sandwiches and give them away to the first responders and people waiting in line at the One Blood donation center. The food and drinks were handed out, free of charge, to all the people who had lined up to donate blood.
Apparently, most of those waiting in line to donate blood were “gay people.” Did that deter Chick-fil-A from displaying kindness and generosity?! Not at all. In fact, they were glad to give to their community — including the LGBTQ community.
Why? Because Chick-fil-A has created a culture where they would rather obey Jesus than the popular culture. That means that they can hold personal beliefs and even corporate beliefs, but underlying it all, they are going to love because that’s the greatest commandment of all. Love God and Love People.
In the midst of darkness, light shines brighter. When we submit to the Spirit of God and love others as we have been loved by God, we can best show the light and love of Jesus and draw people — regardless of their sexual orientation, religion, sin conditions, and crazy beliefs (or lack of belief) — to the Savior of their souls.
“In this world you will have tribulation,” Jesus said, but we can be of good cheer, for He added, “I have overcome the world” (John 16:33).
Thank you Chick-fil-A for once again being a shining example of the love of Jesus on this earth. You inspire us to love God and love people even more. I support you and stand with you in praying for the entire community in Orlando.
Please share this if you support Chick-fil-A!
