Take This Vitamin to Repel Mosquitoes All Summer Long

While mosquito repellent may seem like the obvious go-to for protecting yourself from itchy bites this summer, some sprays on the market contain toxic chemicals that have dangerous side effects if absorbed into the skin or accidentally ingested. Luckily, there are several more natural approaches to keeping yourself safe from these pesky bugs.
However, there are people for whom this is a big deal, though. As a matter of fact, the adverse effects of DEET in sprays is not something that should be overlooked as well as the smell of a chemical which remains after using repellent. If you are one of these people, taking vitamin B1 is the right thing for you.
Vitamin B1 also referred to as thiamine, is an essential mineral for the body which is important in boosting immunity and fighting stress. It is usually found in foods like brown rice, eggs, oatmeal, liver, yeast, asparagus, and kale.
There is no need to worry about taking too much of it as any excess gets eliminated through urination, just like with any other water-soluble vitamin.
Speaking of its relationship with mosquitoes, it is important to mention that it changes your smell and makes it unappealing for the mosquitoes.  In fact, it makes your smell “yeasty” to them, which is something that keeps them at bay. However, it doesn’t change the way you smell to people. It sounds amazing, doesn’t it?
Even though the research on this topic is not leading to a firm conclusion, it is definitely worth trying, as it is all-natural and has no side-effects. In fact, many people have tried it and swear by its efficacy.
In addition to this, taking B1 supplements is highly recommended for people with gastric bypass, chronic alcoholism, anorexia, and Crohn`s disease, as these conditions lower its levels in the body.
To keep mosquitoes at bay, you can either take B1 supplements or make your own mosquito repellent. If you go for the first option, take 100 mg of thiamine on a daily basis. In case you choose the latter, check out the recipe below:
