The first officer killed in Dallas has been identified

Officer Brent Thompson, a recently married, seven-year veteran of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit Police, has been identified as one of the officers killed on a chaotic Thursday night in Dallas.
Gunmen opened fired on 10 officers, killing five — Thompson and four from the Dallas Police Department.
The DPD has yet to identify the four officers who died.
“Thompson joined DART in November 2009, according to his LinkedIn page. Before that, he worked with American police officers in Iraq and Afghanistan for the military contractor Dyncorp and served on the Navarro College Police Academy, the page says,” The New York Daily News reported.
“Our hearts are broken,” DART spokesperson Morgan Lyons said in a written statement to the Dallas Morning News.
“This is something that touches every part of our organization. We have received countless expressions of support and sympathy from around the world through the evening. We are grateful for every message.”
DART Chief James Spiller spoke to MSNBC about Thompson early Friday morning.
“Brent was a great officer,” Chief Spiller said.
“He has served admirably during his time here at DART.”
