8-year-old Girl Dies from Sexual Trauma on the Night She Married a 40-year-old Man
Every child deserves to enjoy their childhood by playing and studying, and not being forced into early marriage.
Every woman wants to get married at the right age, to the right person. Having the perfect wedding is every person’s dream, but forcing a wedding on somebody who isn’t ready is definitely not right.
Every child deserves to enjoy their childhood by playing and studying. When these young girls are married off too soon, their entire wellbeing and personal development are in danger. They are often disempowered and will remain dependent on their older husbands. They are neither physically nor emotionally ready to become mothers and wives, and yet they are forced into such a life.
An eight year-old child bride died in Yemen on her wedding night after suffering internal injuries due to sexual trauma. Apparently, the 8-year-old girl died after her 40-year-old husband forced to have sex with her. Human rights organizations are calling for the arrest of her husband, who was five times her age.
It was reported that the death occurred in the tribal area of Hardh in northwestern Yemen, which borders Saudi Arabia. This brings even more attention to the already existing issue of forced child marriages in the Middle East.
Every year 15 million girls are married as children, denied their rights to health, education and opportunity, and robbed of their childhood. If we do nothing, by 2030, an estimated 15.4 million girls a year will marry as children.
