What People should have Tweeted to Barron Trump.
They took advantage of a 10-year-old boy’s innocence and obvious inability to speak for himself. They made fun of him and of his demeanor and they displayed the lowest kind of bullying: that of an adult to a child.
By addressing this letter to Barron Trump I am hoping that those who feel the same way about such Tweets will respond and drown out the voices of the others who tweeted only to ridicule a child.
Dear Barron Trump,
I see you are a fine looking young man on the brink of a challenging time in your life, and that doesn’t even include the fact that your father is the President.
It’s tough being 10 years old.
Things get bigger and decisions get harder and emotions either get deeper or closer to the surface.
There’s a lot going on.
I am writing to tell you that I understand. I also understand that in some ways it might be way easier for you to have all that going on without the big spotlight that is shining on you.
On the other hand, you may grow to like that spotlight.
Either way, growing up is challenging and tough.
I know that lots of people have tweeted some strange and even mean things about you but I, for one, as a mother and grandmother, am all for you. I’m behind you and how you respond to what is going on in your huge world, however you choose to respond to it.
It’s not for me to say whether your parents should be doing things differently than the way they are. It’s not for me to judge them. It doesn’t feel good to me to judge and I’m sure it doesn’t feel good to you to be judged.
It does feel good to me to simply tell you again that I understand and that I won’t laugh at you or point my finger at you or say nasty things about you.
I am an adult who respects that you are a child learning your way.
And you know what, Barron?
There are more adults who feel the same way. There are lots of us who are moms and dads and big brothers and big sisters and uncles and aunts and grandmas and grandpas who just plain get it.
You’re a kid.
Just wanted you to know,
From a 75-year-old Grandma
