Never REHEAT These 11 Foods, They Can Poison Your Family

Sometimes we have leftovers so we tend to reheat them because we don’t want to eat them cold. You should know that some foods are not “meant” to be consumed reheated.
Our microwaves are our handy kitchen companions when it comes to reheating leftovers. However, according to researches, reheating some of your favorite foods can be dangerous to your health, especially if they were stored wrongly beforehand.
Here are some of those foods and why you should refrain from giving them a SECOND go in the oven, on the stove or the worst – in your microwave:
1. Chicken meat
Chicken meat should not be reheated because it contains proteins which are negatively affected. The protein composition changes when cold. Chicken contains much more protein than red meat and when reheated can cause digestive troubles, so if you prefer to reheat your meat, make sure that it is thoroughly cooked: the inside of the reheated meat should be piping hot!
REMEMBER:  Chicken meat is supposed to be eaten cold. If you still need to reheat it, make sure you do it on a low temperature for a long period of time. The best way to prevent severe digestive problems, consume stored chicken in a cold salad or a cold sandwich.
2. Spinach
Spinach is a rich source of iron and nitrates so when reheated, these nitrates can transform into nitrites and other known carcinogens.
3. Celery
Like spinach, celery can become toxic if you reheat it and consume it, and it’s all because it contains nitrates which transform into carcinogens. If you use celery in your soup, make sure to eat the whole soup at once, or remove the celery before warming the soup again. The same thing goes for carrots.
4. Turnips
Turnips are dangerous to reheat just like celery and spinach since they also contain high amount of nitrates.
5. Oils
Some of the oils like avocado oil, flaxen seed oil, walnut oil, hazelnut oil and grape seed oil have very low smoke points so when they get reheated, they become rancid. So, do avoid using them as cooking, baking or frying oils!
Rather, sprinkle or drizzle them over your meals at the end of cooking to enhance the taste of the food.
6. Mushrooms
Due to their complex protein content, they need to be eaten the same day of their preparation. Proteins can deteriorate as you cut the up which is bad for your belly. Because of that, before you cook them, take the exact amount you think is enough to “tame“ your hunger.
REMEMBER:  Reheated mushrooms present the highest health risk. Make sure to eat them cold the next day since if you reheat them, they will cause digestive or even serous heart problems.
You must be careful of the types of leftovers you put in the oven or in the microwave.
7. Eggs
The morning staple food, eggs should definitely not be exposed to heat for the second time since it can make them toxic and they will wreak a havoc in your digestive tract.
8. Potatoes
Potatoes are delicious and full of nutrients, but unfortunately when left on a room temperature for a long time they lose their nutritious value. As a result, they become toxic and cause nausea or illness, most commonly food poisoning.
If potatoes are left to cool down at a room temperature after cooking instead of immediately refrigerating them, the warm temperature can cause a rare bacterium called botulism. In order to avoid any problems with reheating, it is best to store them in your fridge, since botulism cannot be killed with a quick zap in your microwave. On the other hand, if you intend to eat your potato stew for a couple of days, take the potatoes out and just add them subsequently.
9. Rice (whatever its color is)
It is very important how you store rice before heating it because it can cause many problems. According to the Food Standards Agency, uncooked rice can contain spores of bacteria that can cause food poisoning. However, when the rice is cooked, the spores can still survive. As a results, if the rice is left at a room temperatures, the spores will multiply and may produce poisons that cause vomiting or diarrhea. Reheating the rice won’t get rid of these poisons.
10. Beets
Just like spinach, this vegetable is very rich in nitrates. Because reheating beets can cause a lot of discomfort, you should eat your leftovers cold NOT reheated.
11. Butter lettuce
The best way if eating this green leafy vegetable is to eat it raw since then you will get all the benefits. If you really must, you can cook it, but never reheat it since the high amount of nitrates can easily cause food poisoning!
RECAPPING: We all reheat leftovers for the second or third time, especially our favorite food. We are allowed to do that with some foods, but other can cause damage to our organism when reheated. It may sound unbelievable to you that some healthy foods become toxic when reheated, but it is true because they lose their nutrients in the process.
In order to stay healthy and safe, avoid reheating the abovementioned foods.
